How was your day?

Often when friend or family member has cancer you don’t know what to say or how to act. It can be hard to know how to talk to them. Its nice to simply ask “How was your day?”

Take your cues from the person with cancer and allow them to choose the tone of the conversation. If you’re not sure how to start the conversation. It’s okay to say, ‘It’s difficult. I don’t know what to say.’” or ask them if they would like to chat about the experience allowing them to decide what to talk about and how much to share.

Listening is the most meaningful and helpful thing you can do. All conversions do not need to be about cancer. Chances are they want to feel as normal and there is always the latest on TV or Netflix. They have probably watched more TV than you while resting.

Most importantly NO pity eyes and voice or “How are you REALLY!!”
