Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. This weekend in Melbourne there are 1800 International Breast Cancer Experts meeting to discuss research and improve the outcomes of women breast cancer.
Metastatic Breast Cancer (mbc) is treatable but no longer curable. Treatment is lifelong and focuses on preventing further spread of the disease and managing symptoms. The goal is for patients to live a good quality of life for as long as possible. mbcn.org
Some special advice from Dr Chantel Thornton, Shelli’s and my Breast Cancer Specialist, for family and friends of a Metastatic Breast Cancer patient.
If you know someone with metastatic cancer, try to stay in touch , offer them support and let them know that you care.
From experience as a carer, it is a long, hard road but without love and support from family and friends it is a mountainous ride and lonely too.
