Pain from fatigue, discomfort from chemotherapy, medication side effects or from the cancer itself make trouble sleeping a common problem for cancer patients. This can continue after treatment too.

Cancer-related sleep disorders can be difficulty falling asleep, waking up during the night, or early morning wake ups with the inability to get back to sleep. Depression or anxiety, hot flashes and night sweats also make it challenging to fall asleep. Worse, not getting enough sleep weakens the immune system and can exacerbate these disorders.

Other factors may cause an irregular sleep pattern, excessive amount of time spent in bed, napping or excess use of electronic devices before sleep although Facebook chats can be wonderful company for those not sleeping.
