Medication safety

Check that the patient knows how to store their oral chemotherapy medication safely.

It is important to keep the chemotherapy drugs (if fact all medication) in their original packaging. If you are required to take your medication to hospital they require them in the packaging. We also found this important when we had to call an ambulance for Shelli and they needed to know the medication that she was taking. Save and organize the information leaflets the pharmacy gives you with your prescriptions and keep list of current medication for easy reference. Panic sets in when there is an emergency so having everything listed and properly stored means you can accurately pass on the information required.

Store any chemotherapy drugs (tablets or liquids) as per the direction given by your medical team or pharmacist and always keep the lid tightly closed. Store your medications separately from those of your other family members and out of the sight and reach of children and/or pets.
